UNIVERSITY RESEARCH FARM

The Model Sustainable Agricultural Complex (formerly Cade Farm) is approximately 15 miles from the main UL Lafayette campus. The 600-acre Complex accommodates numerous facilities in an integrated array including a Crawfish Research Center (discussed below) and production acreage for beef, sugarcane, and specialty crops.

The landscape also includes natural habitats, nature trails, maintained wetlands. The Complex is used for research, education, demonstration, and outreach in agriculture and sustainability. The Crawfish Research Center (CRC) was established in 1976. The CRC serves the regional aqua culture community through research, demonstration, outreach, and training. Activities center around the crawfish industry with ancillary work with finfish aquaculture (which is assuming greater significance in the area).
